A Death Midwife also known as Death Doula has specialized training and skills in supporting those who are their dying process as well as their family, friends, and loved ones. Death doulas offer the dying non-medical specialized care uniquely suited to their emotional, spiritual and cultural needs. We offer grounded compassionate care and support for the hard questions such as advanced directives, post death planning and normalizing fears that those in the dying process may have around leaving their body.
What a death doula offers: Support for the dying person in understanding that death is a normal process, and support them in becoming familiar with the sensation of leaving their body, so that the process is not fearful at the end.
We can assist both the dying person and their family in understanding their options around the post death time, in the creation of a death plan and providing support in getting the information you need to make good decisions.
As a shamanically trained death doula I sit by the side of the death journeyer throughout their final dying process, supporting the emotional and spiritual needs of the death journeyer. I have been trained to understand the physiology of the post death process as well as caring for the emotional needs of the family, and can help facilitate good communication between the dying person and their network of health care providers.
We are there to support the family with the careful planning and carrying out of any ceremonies or rituals after the death as well as supporting families to re-claim their right to a home vigil, wake or funeral.
I have received trainings as both a Death Doula and as a Home Funeral Guide. I am also a Ministerial Chaplan trained in funerary care and support, as well as being a Certified Celebrant through the prestigious Celebrant Institute. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Metaphysical Science, B.Msc and have been honoured to have supported many families through the death process, both in the creation of memorial ceremonies, holding vigil and home funerals. I am also an animist minister trained in soul ushering and psychopomp work.
