This piece carries a lot of medicine, both old and new. The mask pendant was newly carved out of ancient Stegodon bone, which are an extinct animal belonging to the Proboscidea family.

They are mamals that have a trunk and tusks whos remains were found near the Solo River in central Java. The site had been dated to the Pliocene era. These giants roamed during the time of Early Prehistoric Humans. Java Man, one of the first known species of Homo Erectus, was discovered in Java c. 1891.

The name "Stegodon" comes from the Greek stefein "to cover, to roof" plus odous "tooth", after the roof-shaped rigdes of their teeth. Their exact relationship to other species is a matter of debate. Paleontologists once thought they they were the ancestor of the mammoth but now they believe they were their larger cousin. Their bones suggest that Stegodons resemble extant elephants; although quite larger, more robust and with more prominent tusks. Some individuals had tusks so large and close together that they had to drape their tusks over them.

The beads are Ostrich and old hand carved Yak bone beads from Nepal, as well as white and grey agate.

Ostrich egg shell beads have been found in many countries in Upper Paleolithic and Middle Stone Age contexts throughout the world and the making of them is a long and intense process as each one has to be made by hand, there is no other way to create ostrich egg beads. This makes them quite costly and also precious at the same time as we seem to have lost the old world way of making things by hand.

Agate is known as THE stone everyone should have for protection. It is said that Agates attract strength, and are good when used for protection from bad dreams.
Agate's have been used in jewelry since Biblical Babylonian times and were often used to ward off storms. The agates with banded colors were placed at the head of a sleeper to give rich and varied dreams. Agates are also good for meditation and for calming the mind.
