Couples Drum Making

Picture
When you work together as a couple to build a drum, it serves as a reminder of the life you are also building together, of companionship and strength in supporting one other to craft something sacred.

The drum also represents the universal heartbeat, of love, and essentially heart of your relationship.
I have been teaching drum making workshops for many years now and usually I have the participants partner up to help each other make their drum. Over the years I have watched as these couples work to make their drums together, and what happens to be an intricate and complex process.

As couples come together in a relationship or marriage, working and communicating together is an important and crucial part of having a harmonious and fun time in your lives.

Building a drum together gives couples the opportunity to craft a sacred item that represents the heartbeat of their relationship and home together. Building a drum takes teamwork and communication and this is the essence of this workshop.

Once the drum is created, we will do a special ceremony together to bring the drum alive and make it truly a sacred object. Often couples will have the drum as a sacred part of their wedding ceremony, to be played or to represent this sacred heartbeat that that pulses at the center of their relationship.

If you live in Vancouver I will come to your home for this workshop. Very little space is required, and living rooms are usually sufficient.
I also am happy to see couples in my home if you live outside Vancouver.
The fee for the workshop is $250.00 which includes both the creation of a drum and beater.

“Making a drum together with Nikiah was a truly inspiring process. It gave us the opportunity to spend some extra time with her before our wedding, talking about the ceremony in more depth. As she walked us through the process, we got to explore how we work together as a couple – testing our patience, overcoming obstacles and ultimately creating this beautiful drum that we’ll have for the rest of our lives, reminding us of our unique celebration.” – Stu and Molly
